Why Unplugged?

In a world where teens are constantly “on,” Unplugged gives them permission to log off and tune in — to their senses, their peers, and the natural world. Each trip is crafted for middle schoolers (primarily rising 7th–9th graders) and intentionally blends:

Hands-on indoor exploration

Outdoor immersion in South Florida’s coastal and wild spaces

Quiet moments for reflection, creativity, and connection

With small group sizes (max of 6 per trip), every participant is seen, supported, and encouraged to explore at their own pace

Meet Laura

Hi, I'm Laura 👋🏽

I’m a certified teacher, mother, outdoor educator, and nature nerd with a deep love for helping teens rediscover wonder. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Geography from the University of Puerto Rico and a Master’s in Environmental Education — and I’ve spent the last 22 years teaching geography, including 11 years in a private school in Broward County, Florida, and 11 more in Puerto Rico.

Throughout my career, I’ve led students on unforgettable learning journeys — from local ecosystems to U.S. National Parks and even across the Atlantic to Switzerland. Every trip reminds me: the best classrooms don’t have walls.

I created Unplugged Outdoor Co. to give young people a space to breathe, play, question, and grow — all while building confidence and friendships far from WiFi signals.
