June 10th - Cultural Intelligence
Seminole history becomes real-world practice in perspective, inquiry and communication.
Service Description
This teacher-led, phone-free experience takes teens to the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum on the Big Cypress Seminole Indian Reservation. Through immersive exhibits, historical objects, stories and a museum-led educational activity, students will explore Seminole history and contemporary life while connecting culture, geography, identity and the environment. But this is not a passive museum visit. Teens will practice observing closely, asking thoughtful questions, discussing unfamiliar perspectives and communicating respectfully—skills strong students need in advanced classes, leadership roles, travel, college and an increasingly diverse workplace. Skills practiced: Critical thinking • Cultural intelligence • Curiosity • Respectful communication A structured, educator-led cultural adventure at the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum on the Big Cypress Seminole Indian Reservation. Teens ages 12–16 will explore Seminole history and contemporary life through immersive exhibits, historic objects, stories and a museum-led educational activity. Weather permitting, the experience may also include the cypress-boardwalk trail and Seminole Village. Because late-May heat and thunderstorms are possible, the indoor museum will remain the main activity and outdoor portions will be adjusted when necessary. Teens will remain with the small group and be closely supervised by the Unplugged Outdoor Co. team using designated meeting points, regular head counts and the buddy system.
